There’s never been a single time

Not a, not a-one, that I’ve been to Detroit

Where it wasn’t some kind of adventure

City is fucking crazy, it’s like, it’s palpably alive

It’s an entity, it’s not like just a place you go

It’s Detroit

And one of the reasons that Detroit is my favorite market

Is because the audiences in Detroit, for a comedian

I find them to be particularly challenging

So when I go there, in this particular story

It seemed like a pretty bnign night

And I’m sittin' in the dressing room at the Fillmor

And there’s an older gentleman in there

And I don’t really talk to the guy much, but he was a nice guy

Cool energy, shit like that

And then, uh, famed Detroit rapper Danny Brown came in

Now at this time, I wasn’t that familiar with Danny Brown’s music

You know what I mean?

So when he asked me to smoke with him, I just smoked with him

I didn’t hear all that «Adderall Admiral» and all that shit

I didn’t know he was about that life (Haha)

I’m assuming it’s weed, I don’t know what the fuck it was

But, boy, I mean, I smoked weed a million times in my life

Never, ever remember feeling this way before

And as I was walking on stage, I told my road manager

«You know, my number’s up tonight»

He’s like, «What does that mean?»

«I'm going to bomb»

And true to my professional prescription, I did

But, there’s bombing and then there’s the shit that happens in Detroit

It’s like, the crowd was with me

But the way the crowd responded to me widely

Was one of my favorite crowd interactions ever

And as the set is going terribly

When it’s clear I’m not gonna be able to pull the nose up and I’m gonna have to

crash this thing

I saw Danny Brown slipping out the room, which made me laugh really hard

Go back in the dressing room and everyone, you know there’s a stink on ya after

you bomb

Where everyone looks at you like, you know what I mean?

Like Headwound Harry, like, «Nigga, are you okay?»

But I really, I can’t explain it to ya, I really didn’t care

And then, and then, it turns out

That this kind older gentleman was Big Sean’s father

And my goodness what the, the, he gave me a pep talk that only a dad could give

And it made me feel wonderful, man (Wow)

So shoutout to you Big Sean, shout out to Detroit

I’ll never stop loving your city, and I’ll never stop loving you, bro

You guys are the truth, much love to the Motor City

Und einer der Gründe, warum Detroit mein Lieblingsmarkt ist

Ist weil das Publikum in Detroit für einen Comedian

Ich empfinde sie als besonders herausfordernd

Wenn ich also dorthin gehe, in dieser speziellen Geschichte

Es schien eine ziemlich heitere Nacht zu sein

Und ich sitze in der Umkleidekabine im Fillmor

Und da drin ist ein älterer Herr

Und ich rede nicht wirklich viel mit dem Typen, aber er war ein netter Kerl

Coole Energie, so ein Scheiß

Und dann kam der berühmte Rapper Danny Brown aus Detroit herein

Zu dieser Zeit war ich mit Danny Browns Musik noch nicht so vertraut

Sie wissen, was ich meine?

Als er mich also bat, mit ihm zu rauchen, habe ich einfach mit ihm geraucht

Ich habe diesen ganzen „Adderall Admiral“ und diesen ganzen Scheiß nicht gehört

Ich wusste nicht, dass er von diesem Leben handelt (haha)

Ich nehme an, es ist Gras, ich weiß nicht, was zum Teufel es war

Aber, Junge, ich meine, ich habe in meinem Leben millionenfach Gras geraucht

Erinnere dich niemals daran, dich vorher so gefühlt zu haben

Und als ich auf die Bühne ging, sagte ich es meinem Road Manager

«Weißt du, meine Nummer ist heute Abend frei«

Er sagt: „Was bedeutet das?“

«Ich werde bombardieren»

Und getreu meinem professionellen Rezept habe ich es getan

Aber es gibt Bombenanschläge und dann gibt es die Scheiße, die in Detroit passiert

Es ist, als ob die Menge mit mir war

Aber die Art und Weise, wie die Menge auf mich reagiert hat

War eine meiner liebsten Interaktionen mit der Menge

Und da das Set schrecklich läuft

Wenn klar ist, dass ich die Nase nicht hochziehen kann und muss

Absturz dieses Ding

Ich habe gesehen, wie Danny Brown aus dem Zimmer geschlichen ist, was mich sehr zum Lachen gebracht hat

Geh zurück in die Umkleidekabine und alle, du weißt, dass es danach stinkt

du bombardierst

Wo dich jeder gerne ansieht, verstehst du, was ich meine?

Wie Headwound Harry, wie «Nigga, geht es dir gut?»

Aber ich wirklich, ich kann es dir nicht erklären, es war mir wirklich egal

Und dann, und dann stellt sich heraus

Dass dieser freundliche ältere Herr Big Seans Vater war

Und meine Güte, was zum, der, er hat mir eine aufmunternde Rede gehalten, die nur ein Vater halten kann

Und es hat mir ein wunderbares Gefühl gegeben, Mann (Wow)

Also Shoutout to Big Sean, Shout out to Detroit

Ich werde nie aufhören, deine Stadt zu lieben, und ich werde nie aufhören, dich zu lieben, Bruder

Ihr seid die Wahrheit, viel Liebe zur Motor City
