I am the captain and I have been told

That tomorrow we land and my ship has been sold

I think of the crew, most of all the first ensign

Guiding a ship, it takes more than your skill

The first ensign watched as tempests all tried me

I sang in the wind as if God were beside me

Ich denke an die Besatzung, vor allem an den ersten Fähnrich

Für alle haben wir das Meer gelernt

Um ein Schiff zu führen, braucht es mehr als nur deine Fähigkeiten

Es ist der Kompass in dir, es ist die Stärke deines Willens

Der erste Fähnrich sah zu, wie alle Stürme mich auf die Probe stellten

Für alle haben wir das Meer gelernt

Wir haben die Meerenge einmal erreicht, selbst ich konnte nicht durch

Dass die Sterne des Meeres für das Land gleich sind
