Tony lay looking at the sun going down

He was in the hospital and he was ninety-one

He was in pain, but his wife and memory were gone

He lay and smiled and thought: «Dear Lord, now I am done»

Now is the time I want to die

Now I have done all that I planned

I want to say goodbye

Now is the time I want to die

He saw the doctor’s worried look and thought: «Hooray!

Finally they’re giving up.

They’ll let me pass away»

But the doctor said: «You may be an old man

But Tony, I will get you well.

I will do all I can!»

So Tony was prescribed seven new, expensive pills

To eat three times daily, before all his meals

But he put all the medicines in the flowerpot

All the pretty flowers died but Tony did not

The doctor in the ward was a nice and friendly guy

He said: «You're lucky you don’t smoke, ‘cause smokers tend to die»

So right away, Tony made his start smoking plan

And soon he was chain smoking like a Marlboro Man

Now is the time I want to die

One day the doctor didn’t seem at ease and scratched his head:

«We must replace your heart.

Otherwise you’re dead!»

So Tony switched beds before the operation

So his neighbor got Tony’s heart transplantation

So Tony thought: «Yes, I will die sooner than him»

However Tony’s neighbor happened to win

Because the roommate got a serious transplant rejection

And died two days later in his complication

Now is the time I want to die

Now I have done all that I planned

But Tony recalled the Count of Monte Cristo’s trick

«This is the way out.

I have to be quick»

He switched beds again and prayed to the Lord

And under the blanket he was rolled to the morgue

Once in the lift things didn’t go according to plan

His throat was dry and itching.

He was an old man

He coughed under the blanket and sat up and smiled

But the poor nurse got a heart attack and died

When Tony returned to the ward he was stressed

Everybody knew and the doctor was depressed

So Tony thought to himself: «I will tag along»

«And take all my doctor’s medication from now on»

So Tony took his pill organizer, but did not

Empty it in the window frame flowerpot

But he got swollen in the throat and died, because you see

He had a drug allergy and now he’s free!

Tony lag da und sah der untergehenden Sonne zu

Er war im Krankenhaus und er war einundneunzig

Er hatte Schmerzen, aber seine Frau und sein Gedächtnis waren weg

Er lag und lächelte und dachte: «Lieber Gott, jetzt bin ich fertig»

Jetzt ist die Zeit, in der ich sterben möchte

Jetzt habe ich alles getan, was ich geplant hatte

Ich möchte mich verabschieden

Jetzt ist die Zeit, in der ich sterben möchte

Er sah den besorgten Blick des Arztes und dachte: «Hurra!

Endlich geben sie auf.

Sie lassen mich sterben»

Aber der Arzt sagte: „Du bist vielleicht ein alter Mann

Aber Tony, ich werde dich gesund machen.

Ich werde alles tun, was ich kann!»

Also wurden Tony sieben neue, teure Pillen verschrieben

Dreimal täglich vor allen Mahlzeiten essen

Aber er hat alle Medikamente in den Blumentopf getan

Alle hübschen Blumen starben, aber Tony nicht

Der Arzt auf der Station war ein netter und freundlicher Typ

Er sagte: „Du hast Glück, dass du nicht rauchst, denn Raucher neigen dazu, zu sterben.“

Also machte Tony sofort seinen Plan, mit dem Rauchen anzufangen

Und bald rauchte er Ketten wie ein Marlboro-Mann

Jetzt ist die Zeit, in der ich sterben möchte

Jetzt habe ich alles getan, was ich geplant hatte

Ich möchte mich verabschieden

Jetzt ist die Zeit, in der ich sterben möchte

Eines Tages schien sich der Arzt nicht wohl zu fühlen und kratzte sich am Kopf:

„Wir müssen dein Herz ersetzen.

Sonst bist du tot!»

Also wechselte Tony vor der Operation das Bett

Sein Nachbar bekam also Tonys Herztransplantation

Also dachte Tony: „Ja, ich werde früher sterben als er.“

Allerdings hat Tonys Nachbar gewonnen

Weil der Mitbewohner eine schwere Transplantationsablehnung bekam

Und starb zwei Tage später an seiner Komplikation

Jetzt ist die Zeit, in der ich sterben möchte

Jetzt habe ich alles getan, was ich geplant hatte

Ich möchte mich verabschieden

Jetzt ist die Zeit, in der ich sterben möchte

Aber Tony erinnerte sich an den Trick des Grafen von Monte Christo

«Das ist der Ausweg.

Ich muss schnell sein»

Er wechselte erneut das Bett und betete zum Herrn

Und unter der Decke wurde er ins Leichenschauhaus gerollt

Im Aufzug liefen die Dinge nicht nach Plan

Sein Hals war trocken und juckte.

Er war ein alter Mann

Er hustete unter die Decke, setzte sich auf und lächelte

Aber die arme Krankenschwester bekam einen Herzinfarkt und starb

Als Tony auf die Station zurückkehrte, war er gestresst

Jeder wusste es und der Arzt war deprimiert

Da dachte sich Tony: «Ich komme mit»

«Und nehme von nun an alle Medikamente meines Arztes»

Also nahm Tony seinen Tablettenspender, tat es aber nicht

Leeren Sie es in den Blumentopf des Fensterrahmens

Aber er schwoll im Hals an und starb, weil Sie sehen

Er hatte eine Drogenallergie und jetzt ist er frei!
