1Lo, the central thought of God

Is that He be one with man;

He to man is everything

That He might fulfill His plan.

2Earthen vessel man was made-

Body, soul, and spirit too,

God as life that he may take

And with Him have oneness true.

3By the flow of life divine,

Man becomes a precious stone

Fit for building God’s abode,

That His glory might be known.

4'Tis the city God hath built,

'Tis the dwelling God requires,

'Tis the new Jerusalem

Which fulfills His heart’s desires.

5'Tis the building of the saints,

'Tis the blend of God and man,

Purposed by the Father’s will

Long before the world began.

6In its center, as its pow’r,

Is the throne of Christ and God,

Whence doth flow the stream of life

As the Spirit’s living flood.

7Christ, the tree of life, is there

In the flowing of the stream,

Yielding fruit of life divine

As the food of life supreme.

8God in Christ, the glorious light,

Thru the city brightly shines,

Scattering all the deathly night

With its light of life divine.

9God in man and man in God

Mutual dwelling thus possess;

God the content is to man,

And the man doth God express.

1Lo, der zentrale Gedanke Gottes

Soll er eins sein mit dem Menschen?

Er für den Menschen ist alles

Dass er seinen Plan erfüllen möge.

2Irdener Gefäßmensch wurde gemacht-

Körper, Seele und Geist auch,

Gott als Leben, das er nehmen kann

Und mit Ihm haben wahre Einheit.

3Durch den Fluss des göttlichen Lebens,

Der Mensch wird zu einem Edelstein

Fit für den Bau von Gottes Wohnung,

Damit seine Herrlichkeit erkannt werde.

4 Es ist die Stadt, die Gott gebaut hat,

Das ist die Wohnung, die Gott verlangt,

Es ist das neue Jerusalem

Was Seine Herzenswünsche erfüllt.

5 Es ist das Gebäude der Heiligen,

Es ist die Mischung aus Gott und Mensch,

Vorgesehen durch den Willen des Vaters

Lange bevor die Welt begann.

6In seiner Mitte, wie seine Kraft,

Ist der Thron Christi und Gottes,

Woher fließt der Strom des Lebens

Als die lebendige Flut des Geistes.

7 Christus, der Baum des Lebens, ist da

Im Fließen des Stroms,

Frucht des göttlichen Lebens hervorbringend

Als höchste Nahrung des Lebens.

8Gott in Christus, dem herrlichen Licht,

Durch die Stadt leuchtet hell,

Zerstreut die ganze Todesnacht

Mit seinem göttlichen Lebenslicht.

9 Gott im Menschen und der Mensch in Gott

Gegenseitiges Wohnen also besitzen;

Gott, der Inhalt ist für den Menschen,

Und der Mensch drückt Gott aus.
