Sein erstes Soloalbum „ "Units in the City" “ erschien am 26. Februar 2008 und enthielt Hits wie "Dey Know" Nach seinem tragischen Tod am 21. September 2016 wurde 2017 posthum das Album "RICO" veröffentlicht. Shawty Lo prägte das Genre des Southern Hip-Hop maßgeblich.
