Quite probably, I’m wrong, BUT even if I’m wrong…

I love to climb an apple tree

Though apples green are bad for me

And I’ll be sick as I can be

It’s foolish but it’s fun

When thunder storms put folks to rout

And no one dares to venture out

That’s when I love to slosh about

It’s foolish but it’s fun

If it should ever come to pass

That I inherit wealth

I’ll eat and drink and drink and eat

Until I wreck my health

I’ll never see the morning light

I’ll sleep all day and dance all night

and though I know it isn’t right

It’s foolish but It’s fun

Lots of cranky folks, object to jokes

and want to prove to you

that it’s not worthwhile to sing or smile

if you want to be good and true.

They may of course, be right.

Or nearly, if not quite.

But even if they’re right…

Obwohl grüne Äpfel schlecht für mich sind

Und ich werde so krank sein, wie ich nur sein kann

Es ist dumm, aber es macht Spaß

Wenn Gewitter Menschen in die Flucht schlagen

Und niemand wagt es, sich hinauszuwagen

Da schwappe ich gerne herum

Falls es jemals dazu kommen sollte

Dass ich Reichtum erbe

Ich werde essen und trinken und trinken und essen

Bis ich meine Gesundheit ruiniere

Ich werde niemals das Morgenlicht sehen

Ich werde den ganzen Tag schlafen und die ganze Nacht tanzen

und obwohl ich weiß, dass es nicht richtig ist

Es ist dumm, aber es macht Spaß

Viele verschrobene Leute haben Einwände gegen Witze

und dir beweisen wollen

dass es sich nicht lohnt zu singen oder zu lächeln

wenn du gut und wahr sein willst.

Sie können natürlich Recht haben.

Oder fast, wenn nicht ganz.

Aber selbst wenn sie Recht haben …
