The Letter - Dolly Parton

This is the first letter that I wrote back home to mom and daddy

A few days after I’d moved to Nashville

June 2nd 1964 Nashville Tennesee

Dear mom and daddy I hope this letter finds everybody well and happy

As for me I’m fine I guess I’m just a little lonesome and a whole lot homesick

I got to Nashville OK and I thought I’d better write and let you know

Cause I knew you’d be worried about me

And I don’t let you know to worried about me Cause I’m gonna be alright

Once I get settled and used to bein' away from home

I didn’t realize how much I loved you and all them noisy kids until I left

And I didn’t reaize how hard it was to eave home eiter

Till I started to leave and everybody started cryin' includin' me

I cried almost all the way to Nashville

And I wanted to turn around a few times and come back

But you know how bad I’ve always wanted to go to Nashville

And be a singer and songwriter

And I believe that if I try long enough and hard enough that someday I’ll make

it

Don’t worry about tryin' to send me any money or anything

Cause I’ve got a job singin' on the early morning television show

Here called the Eddie Hill Show

And a couple of folks already told me that they might record a couple of my

songs

So I’ll be makin' enough money to get by

And I don’t want you to worryin' about me bein' hungry or anything

And Nashville’s not exactly what I thought it was gonna be

But I believe I’m gonna like it here once I get used to it

And I don’t want you to worryin' about me gettin' in trouble either

Cause I’ll be good just like I promised you I would when I left

Well can’t think of anything else to say

I guess I’d better close for now and you write me real soon

And tell everybody I said hello and I’m gonna be real anxious to hear from you

Cause I sure miss you and I love you an awful lot

Das ist der erste Brief, den ich nach Hause an Mama und Papa geschrieben habe

Liebe Mama und Papa, ich hoffe, dieser Brief erreicht alle wohlauf und glücklich

Was mich betrifft, geht es mir gut, ich glaube, ich bin nur ein bisschen einsam und habe eine ganze Menge Heimweh

Ich bin in Nashville angekommen und dachte, ich schreibe dir besser und lass es dich wissen

Weil ich wusste, dass du dir Sorgen um mich machen würdest

Und ich lasse es dich nicht wissen, dass du dir Sorgen um mich machst, weil es mir gut gehen wird

Sobald ich mich eingerichtet und daran gewöhnt habe, von zu Hause weg zu sein

Mir war nicht klar, wie sehr ich dich und all die lärmenden Kinder liebte, bis ich ging

Und mir war nicht klar, wie schwer es war, nach Hause zu gehen

Bis ich anfing zu gehen und alle anfingen zu weinen, mich eingeschlossen

Ich habe fast den ganzen Weg nach Nashville geweint

Und ich wollte ein paar Mal umdrehen und zurückkommen

Aber du weißt, wie sehr ich schon immer nach Nashville wollte

Und ein Sänger und Songwriter sein

Und ich glaube daran, dass ich es eines Tages schaffen werde, wenn ich es lange genug und hart genug versuche

Mach dir keine Sorgen, wenn du versuchst, mir Geld oder irgendetwas zu schicken

Weil ich einen Job habe, in der frühmorgendlichen Fernsehshow zu singen

Hier die Eddie Hill Show genannt

Und ein paar Leute haben mir schon gesagt, dass sie vielleicht ein paar von meinen aufnehmen würden

Also verdiene ich genug Geld, um über die Runden zu kommen

Und ich möchte nicht, dass du dir Sorgen machst, dass ich hungrig bin oder so

Und Nashville ist nicht genau das, was ich mir vorgestellt habe

Aber ich glaube, es wird mir hier gefallen, sobald ich mich daran gewöhnt habe

Und ich möchte auch nicht, dass du dir Sorgen machst, dass ich in Schwierigkeiten komme

Denn ich werde brav sein, so wie ich es dir versprochen habe, als ich gegangen bin

Mir fällt nichts anderes ein, was ich sagen könnte

Ich schätze, ich schließe jetzt besser und du schreibst mir bald

Und sagen Sie allen, dass ich Hallo gesagt habe, und ich bin sehr gespannt darauf, von Ihnen zu hören

Denn ich vermisse dich wirklich und ich liebe dich sehr
