Up on Scorpion Hill, watching life

Passing me by in the pale moonlight

I’ve been having some pretty dark thoughts

To get my act together

And I’ll admit lately things really went off the rails

I know that you deserve better

Then in the morning, as I was boarding the

Commuter train to work

The boss was calling, he said, «There's been cutbacks and I’m

Sorry you’re the first»

And if I can’t support the two of us, how can I support a third?

Down and out, I’ve been on the rocks

I’ve been having some pretty dark thoughts

And I’m on the brink, falling deep into debt

Falling deep into drink, I can drown those regrets

I don’t have to think…

Now I’m working the night shift

Asleep at the wheel

I was bursting apart like a flame from a spark

Thinking, «Jesus, this can’t be for real»

My sweat-soaked mattress

Corner of the room

Cigarettes and matches

In the fading afternoon

And a picture of my kid, yeah, he’s smiling

It’s the first day of school

She said, «I found the gun, it was buried beneath

Piles of clothes in the room where your son sleeps

And I can’t pretend, to know how this will end»

Im fahlen Mondlicht an mir vorbei

Wie ein Geist von mir am Nachmittag

Spuk in meiner Kellerwohnung

Ich sah in den Spiegel, der hinter meiner Tür hing

Das Glas war gesprungen und der Mann starrte zurück, er sieht nicht mehr aus wie ich

Und wenn die Welt brennen wird, sollte jeder an der Reihe sein, sie anzuzünden

Ab und zu, ich war auf den Felsen

Ich hatte einige ziemlich dunkle Gedanken

Ich mag sie sehr, whoo!

Immer wieder habe ich es versucht und bin gescheitert

Um mich zusammenzureißen

Und ich gebe zu, in letzter Zeit sind die Dinge wirklich aus dem Ruder gelaufen

Ich weiß, dass du etwas Besseres verdienst

Dann morgens, als ich an Bord ging

S-Bahn zur Arbeit

Der Chef rief an und sagte: „Es gab Kürzungen und ich auch

Tut mir leid, dass du der Erste bist»

Und wenn ich uns beide nicht unterstützen kann, wie kann ich dann einen Dritten unterstützen?

Ab und zu, ich war auf den Felsen

Ich hatte einige ziemlich dunkle Gedanken

Und ich stehe kurz davor, mich tief zu verschulden

Wenn ich tief in Alkohol versinke, kann ich diese Reue ertränken

Ich muss nicht denken …

Jetzt arbeite ich in der Nachtschicht

Am Steuer eingeschlafen

Ich platzte auseinander wie eine Flamme aus einem Funken

Denken: "Jesus, das kann nicht wahr sein"

Meine verschwitzte Matratze

Ecke des Raums

Zigaretten und Streichhölzer

Am verblassenden Nachmittag

Und ein Bild von meinem Kind, ja, er lächelt

Es ist der erste Schultag

Sie sagte: „Ich habe die Waffe gefunden, sie war darunter vergraben

Kleiderberge in dem Zimmer, in dem Ihr Sohn schläft

Und ich kann nicht so tun, als wüsste ich, wie das enden wird»
