Trodden with the cattle’s feet

But a Pebble of the brook

Warbled out these metres meet:

«Love seeketh only Self to please

To bind another to its delight

Joys in another’s loss of ease

And builds a hell in heaven’s despite.»

Auch um sich selbst kümmert es sich nicht

Aber zum anderen gibt es seine Leichtigkeit

Und baut einen Himmel in der Verzweiflung der Hölle.“

So sang ein kleiner Lehmklumpen

Mit den Füßen des Viehs getreten

Sondern ein Kiesel des Baches

Geträllert treffen sich diese Meter:

Freude am Verlust der Leichtigkeit eines anderen

Und baut zum Trotz eine Hölle im Himmel.»
