Once upon a time they sent a rocket to the moon

With scientific instruments to test conditions there

But just before they closed the door, one scientist expelled a germ

That accidentally found its way aboard and stowed away

For three years it remained undetected on the moon

It was the only living creature there:

«I'm all alone

Behold the mystery that is me»

Then one day the scientists recovered all their gear

Excited by the prospect of unearthly things inside

They found, to their astonishment, a living thing within

It seemed to bear good tidings from somewhere in outer space:

«You're not alone

Behold the mystery that is me»

Soon they figured out the heinous error they had made

And now the earthly germ had something else it seemed to say:

«We're all alone

We’re all alone

Behold the mystery

Behold the mystery.»

Es war einmal, dass sie eine Rakete zum Mond schickten

Mit wissenschaftlichen Instrumenten, um die dortigen Bedingungen zu testen

Aber kurz bevor sie die Tür schlossen, stieß ein Wissenschaftler einen Keim aus

Das fand versehentlich seinen Weg an Bord und verstaute sich

Drei Jahre lang blieb es auf dem Mond unentdeckt

Es war das einzige Lebewesen dort:

"Ich bin ganz allein

Seht das Geheimnis, das ich bin»

Dann haben die Wissenschaftler eines Tages ihre gesamte Ausrüstung geborgen

Aufgeregt von der Aussicht auf überirdische Dinge im Inneren

Sie fanden zu ihrem Erstaunen ein Lebewesen darin

Es schien gute Nachrichten von irgendwo im Weltall zu bringen:

"Du bist nicht allein

Du bist nicht allein

Seht das Geheimnis, das ich bin»

Bald erkannten sie den abscheulichen Fehler, den sie gemacht hatten

Und jetzt hatte der irdische Keim etwas anderes, was er zu sagen schien:

"Wir sind alle alleine

Wir sind alle alleine
